Foreword by the Serbian Foregin Affairs Minister
Vuk Jeremić
Dear Europeans – dear friends, For almost sixty years, the Council of Europe has been cherishing and enhancing true foundations and heritage of the modern society: human rights, democracy and the rule of law, individual and political liberties. The respect of these values is the best way for our societies to progress while building the united Europe. Activities of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade are of significant importance for promoting the basic values of the Organisation in Serbia and further consolidation of our society and institutions. After only four years of membership and as one of the youngest members of the oldest pan-European organisation, the Republic of Serbia is chairing the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from May to November this year. Under the slogan “One Europe – Our Europe”, we will strive to give our contribution to building and enhancing the European future based on basic values of the Council of Europe. We will also additionally encourage strengthening of the European unity and make our mark on the path to Europe without the lines of division, for Europe belonging to all of its citizens.
