DSRSG Nadia Cuk on Serbia’s European integration process – BLIC daily

Serbia’s European integration is actually the issue of having proper functioning of the state and the rule of law, said DSRSG in Serbia, Nadia Cuk, in an article on Serbia’s negotiations for EU membership published by Blic daily on Sunday, Sept 6, 2009, titled “Little time (left) for (EU) candidacy”,

“It is necessary for the state to establish the citizens’ trust in state institutions, guarantee legal security, build efficient and professional administration. To put it simply, needed stabilization which could best be described as a process of making laws of high quality and creating institutions which would implement these laws. It could be said that the second phase of transition has began, when it is not enough to just adopt laws but it is necessary to make them credible by their persistent implementation. There is a clear way how to conduct these reforms, just like there is readiness by the international community to help the state to successfully complete the process of reforms”, said Nadia Cuk, Deputy Special Representative of the CoE Secretary General in Serbia.
